"Kelpra" Typeface

"Kelpra" is an experimental, modern, and ambiguous typeface. I was inspired by 1970's fashion, architecture, and advertising.

As a new-comer to type design, I was challenged to design and build a font from scratch for a type workshop. We had the incredible opportunity of working with Rod Cavazos the founder and principal at PSY/OPS type foundry in San Fransisco.

ENDNOTE: Halfway through this project, I met type designer Saki Mafundikwa and got some inspiring feedback for this project. He looked at my sketches and compared them to my vectorized work.  He felt that I was over-refining and he encouraged me to start over and "make the good mistakes". So, I went back to the drawing table and what came out of my pencil was "Kelpra", full of life. The final product is full of happy, funky nuances. I hope you love it!
